This backyard transformation in Farragut, Tennessee, was all about lifestyle. The homeowner was ready to stop mowing and start enjoying—so we designed a complete outdoor living space that eliminated grass entirely and replaced it with beauty, functionality, and lasting performance. With tiered boulder retaining walls, an engineered patio system, and low-maintenance materials throughout, this yard is now built for comfort and ease.

Client Goals
The client came to us with a clear goal: to eliminate all grass in the backyard and create an inviting, low-maintenance outdoor living space. They wanted room to entertain, enjoy a firepit, and move safely across different levels of their sloped yard—all without worrying about mowing or yard upkeep.

Our Process
This project required a strategic mix of engineering, design, and craftsmanship. We started by addressing the slope and structural layout:

- Installed three tiers of natural long-stack boulder retaining walls to stabilize the slope
- Built an engineered retaining wall and seating wall system using Rockwood Premier 8 blocks and buff caps
- Created a flagstone patio with Oklahoma 2” flagstone and a Belgard Weston Stone 48” firepit
- Used Gator Dust joint material to lock in the patio surface and reduce maintenance
- Installed Oklahoma 36” quarried flagstone steps to access different zones of the yard
For finishing touches:

- Added an aluminum fence along the seating wall for safety
- Completed the design with numerous low-maintenance plantings, pine straw mulch, and decorative stone accents
